Utse was an Idea that was born more than 40 years ago.
It was to serve Delicious yet simple food at standard prices in a great ambience.
Our chefs from the Himalayan regions use original recipes handed down from generations. We source most of our spices locally and our vegetables, fruits and meats are sourced from local farmers and vendors.
Our ambience is inspired mainly by Tibetan tradition and culture. It provides an escape from the bustling streets of Thamel.
Our Signature dish is the ‘Gyakok’
Gyakok is family food. It is meant to be shared between 2 or more people. It brings about bonding and comfort while eating it.
It is served in a cooper pot with a chimney opening on top and fire below for constant flame. It is a simmering broth with mixed vegetables, Tofu, Glass noodles, eggs and meat can also be added to it. It is served with sides such as noodles and momos making it a very wholesome meal.

A unique drink we offer is Tongba – This is Traditional Hot Millet Beer. Tongba means Emptiness in Tibetan and it is said that this drink has a very calming effect.
It is also unique in the fact that it is bottom less as you can add hot water and thus it can last at least 3 refills.
